budgie man

UPDATE: (the next night) I think it's better. First I adjusted my monitor gamma to PC standards (I have a mac now and they use a brighter gamma) and adjusted my image to fit. I increased greeny's size and gave him a sword to help bring things back around (hopefully). I think the best bet would have been to add another on his left. May do that some other time. Thanks for the help everybody!

I need some help here. Composition seems...off to me. I think I might have to key up the foreground ugly and darken birdy's wingtips. Ideas?
Edit: OK, wow. At work I can't even see the wings and the FG guy is nearly invisible. I have a new monitor at home ( the other died ) so I guess I have some calibration to do.

WOW!. . . .gorgeous piece. really dig the lighting
The light hits and reflects off of the characters beautifully.
I terms of composition, perhaps if the foreground character was slightly larger and moved up and left, he would balance the piece out a little more. I think this would also make him more of a threat to the bird-man, since he would be comparable, if not larger, in the overall shot composition.
i like it a lot Mark!
you dont really need help, but i guess i personally would try to tilt his Wing on screen Left up (yeah, it'd screw up your smoke/ring thing but you're so good, you'd make it work! =0). there jsut might be too many "horizontal"s in the pic, hence the suggestion. also i'd make the canvas more "widescreen", might be more cinematic (with the forground guy larger like we're right over his shoulder?). (my silly 2cents worth)...the lighting is fabulous!
AWESSOMMMEE. First of all, I love it. One of my favs so far. And I think perhaps the sun might explode if I try to critique your work, BUT I'll make some comments anyway. I showed it to some of the guys at work here and we did a quick 15-second workshop on it. We agreed that, compositionally, it feels like the planes are being separated TOO clearly. Almost like the FG/MG/BG are mapped onto cards in a 3D program. The FG guy in particular exists in his own space there, almost looks like he could have been cut and paste from another file. You might consider having his body overlapping birdman's wing, which would create more depth in the image anyway. Of course, that would require painting more of his body. That's it though. It's pretty tight the way it is now, IMHO.
great piece, I really dig the skin and feathers!! this is awesome... and Marco explains so well the "grounds" stuffs!! ;-)
good job Mark!
The revisions made this piece go from great to fantastic! Excellent piece Mark!
I like the changes you made, now you can see the greenie guys back better. The lighting is really nice, especially the rim light on his head. Great work, Mark!
